Five held for murder of BJP man in Tiruchy

The city police here on Thursday arrested five youth in connection with the murder of BJP functionary F Vijaya Raghu, while City Commissioner V Varadharaju reiterated that there was no religious motive behind the murder but only some personal issues between them.

 The Commissioner, who interacted with the media after arresting the accused in the case, said that the special team had nabbed the culprits from Chennai.


They were identified as M Babu alias Mittai Babu (25) of Varaganeri, his aides M Hariprasad (20) and A Sudarvendhan (19), S Sanjay alias Sachin (19) and M Yasser alias Mohammed Yasser (19) from Sanjeevi Nagar here.


While Mittai Babu and Hariprasad murdered Vijaya Raghu at Gandhi Market, the three others were accused of hatching a conspiracy to murder Raghu, the commissioner said.


Meanwhile, the Commissioner said that Babu murdered Raghu because of some personal issues between them and there was no religious motive behind the murder.


The Commissioner said that Mittai Babu against whom there were several cases pending was also detained under the Goondas Act. The police also seized a bike and the aruval used for the murder from the accused.
