The farmers, led by PR Pandian, president of the coordination committee of the All Tamil Nadu Farmers Associations, submitted a petition with the Chief Engineer in which they demanded the state government should initiate steps to construct Rasimanal dam and a project report should be readied immediately.

They said that the construction of Rasimanal dam would solve the water problem for the farmers from Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile, the farmers also demanded to ensure at least 100 feet water storage at Mettur when it is scheduled to be closed on January 28, so that adequate storage of water would be available for the customary release of water on June 12 in 2020.

Claiming that only 40 per cent of Kudimaramathu works had been completed so far, the farmers demanded to commence the works as early as February for the coming year which would help cover the entire state. They also urged the PWD Chief Engineer to take steps to prevent sand smuggling on the river beds. The farmers also demanded to prevent the transport of sand to the other districts and the states for exorbitant price.

They also demanded to fill the vacancies of executive engineers, assistant executive engineers and assistant engineer posts in the PWD.
