Face problems fearlessly, former HC judge advises students

The state government had allotted Rs 4584.21 crore for higher education in the current budget which included Rs 10 crore to construct hostels for students of both sexes at Tiruvalluvar University, Higher Education Minister and University Pro Chancellor KP Anbalagan said on Thursday.

Participating in the 15th convocation of the Vellore-based Tiruvalluvar University, he said the university’s 123 affiliated arts and science colleges and 6 constituent colleges provided education to 1.44 lakh students in the Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram and Cuddalore districts.

The university was also sanctioned Rs 8 crore to construct buildings for three new subjects, he said, adding that a total of 43,914 students took their degrees in absentia in the current year.

Delivering the convocation address, former Madras High Court judge S Rajeswaran called on the students to face problems they would face in their new chapter in their lives fearlessly, as all problems had solutions which only needed to be found out.

Calling on them to be the change they wanted to see, he said they should work hard as there was no substitute for hard work. However, he cautioned them against forgetting those who helped them in their achievements and said they should work for their families, society and country.

Those present included Higher Education Secretary Mangatram Sharma, University Registrar V Peruvaluthi and Exam Controller B Senthil Kumar.

Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit who was the chief guest handed over degrees to 140 PhD scholars, 31 PG rank holders and 33 UG candidates in person.
