CHENNAI: The AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Monday strongly condemned the brutal murder of a man inside the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital in Chennai, describing it as a complete collapse of law and order under the DMK government.

In a statement, he said government hospitals, which are meant to save lives, had turned into killing grounds under the present regime. He went on to slam Chief Minister MK Stalin, who handles the Home Portfolio and oversees the police force, for the incident.

EPS said that CM Stalin was issuing false statements claiming that Tamil Nadu was a “garden of peace,” even as murders were taking place in bus stands, police residential quarters and government hospitals.

He pointed out that the failure to appoint a permanent Director General of Police had paralysed the police force. With no permanent DGP in place, the force was functioning without clear leadership, creating fear among the public and causing serious concern, he said.

Urging people to remain vigilant and ensure their own safety, he claimed that within the next three months, all such atrocities would be brought to an end by removing the DMK from power.

PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss said that if adequate security arrangements had been in place at the Kilpauk Government Medical College Hospital, which witnesses the movement of thousands of patients every day, miscreants could have entered the maternity ward and carried out the gruesome murder.

Even the escape of the killers could not be prevented, highlighting the failure of the police in their twin responsibilities of monitoring criminals and providing security to the hospital, he said.

AMMK general secretary TTV Dhinakaran also blamed the government for the murder, saying the incident inside a hospital had spread fear among people across the State. Questioning whether Tamil Nadu was in safe hands, he said the failure of the police department had resulted in crimes such as rape, dacoity and murder becoming a daily occurrence.
