CHENNAI: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Friday accused the DMK government of failing to implement even a quarter of the promises made during the 2021 Assembly elections and challenged Chief Minister MK Stalin to seek a fresh mandate based on the government’s track record.
In a statement, Palaniswami said that more than 525 promises were made to the people of Tamil Nadu ahead of the 2021 polls, but claimed that “not even one-fourth” of them have been fulfilled so far.
He alleged that the government was attempting to deflect criticism by blaming the Union government for delays and shortfalls in key projects.
Rejecting the DMK’s charge that the Centre was withholding funds, Palaniswami said the State government failed to submit required project reports in a timely and proper manner for projects such as the Coimbatore and Madurai Metro Rail.
Instead of acknowledging administrative lapses, he alleged, the Chief Minister was seeking to mislead the public by shifting the blame to the Centre.
The AIADMK leader further accused the DMK government of repeatedly twisting narratives to conceal its own failures in governance.
He challenged the Chief Minister to face the electorate on the basis of achievements and place before the people a clear account of the concrete schemes and programmes implemented by the government over the past five years.
“If Stalin seeks a mandate based on his five-year record, what awaits him is not ‘DMK 2.0’ but zero,” Palaniswami said, underscoring his party’s claim that the government’s performance would be rejected by voters.
