“I have started the political party to question the injustice done to Tamils and to address the issues pertaining to Tamil Nadu. The name of the party, flag and future will be announced at a public meeting to be conducted after Pongal,” said Gowthaman, at a press meet in Chennai.
Gowthaman, in the past, had voiced for issues concerning Tamil Nadu and Tamil people, including jallikattu, Cauvery river water issue, farmers’ suicide and so on. Though he was functioning under various banners in the past, he had now floated a party.
“The party will be formidable and will fight for the rights of Tamil people. Our priority will be to voice for the seven convicts in Rajiv Gandhi assassination case as their release is delayed by Governor, Banwarilal Purohit,” said Gowthaman.
When asked whether he would contest against actor Rajinikanth in the elections, Gowthaman replied that he had already informed the media that he will contest against Rajinikanth whenever he contests in the election.
“I have huge respect for Kamal and Rajini as actors and they are the icons of Tamil cinema but that does not mean that they can contest in the election and win seats from here. We know well who is operating them,” said Gowthaman.
He also said that they did not come to politics out of their own interest and they were forced to enter politics after they had retired from acting in movies. They are wrong in assuming that they can win seats just by their popularity and he will contest against them, said Gowthaman.
“When Rajini announced his intention to contest in the elections I announced on the same day that I will contest against him. He has no connection to the soil and has not sacrificed anything for the people. We are not against them, but we cannot allow them to rule,” said Gowthaman.
He further clarified that he had started the party not to oppose anyone or any party and they have not yet decided to contest in the by-elections.
