On May 31, the State had reported over 1,000 cases for the first time following which the number of daily cases skyrocketed manifold before registering a steady decline. With around 60,000-odd samples tested every day, the positivity rate currently is between 1.5 to 2 per cent, which is significantly lesser than the requisite positivity rate of 5% as outlined by the WHO.
Of the new cases, Chennai had 286, while 81 cases were reported in Coimbatore. A total of 47 cases were reported in Chengalpattu and Tiruvallur respectively. As many as 12 more deaths linked to coronavirus were reported in Tamil Nadu, including six deaths in government hospitals and private hospitals each. The total number of COVID-related fatalities stands at 12,092. A total of 1,065 more patients were discharged from several hospitals across the State on Tuesday, taking the total number of recoveries in the State to 7,95,293. Currently, there are 8,747 active cases of COVID-19 in Tamil Nadu.
Meanwhile, a total of 64,768 more samples were tested for COVID-19 in Tamil Nadu, while 64,413 more persons were tested for the virus.
