CHENNAI: BJP state unit on Thursday accused the DMK government of police excesses, administrative apathy and alleged political deal-making ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.

BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran said the DMK would be facing the election with blood on its hands, citing the death of temple security guard Ajith Kumar in Sivaganga last year.

Referring to a submission by the CBI before the Madras High Court that the complaint against Ajith Kumar lacked substance, he said the case had exposed a brutal custodial killing of an innocent man.

"What greater proof is needed to show that Tamil Nadu has been under an inhuman, authoritarian rule for the past five years?" he asked. Alleging selective police action, Nainar questioned why Chief Minister MK Stalin, despite visiting Sivaganga, did not meet the victim's family.

"Were the policemen acting under pressure from above?" he asked, adding that answers would be delivered by the people in the coming Assembly polls.

Meanwhile, responding to DMK MP Kanimozhi's charges, BJP national general council member K Annamalai alleged that key infrastructure projects were being stalled due to the State government's failure to expedite land acquisition.

"Railway projects worth Rs 35,701 crore are currently underway in Tamil Nadu, but as of December 2025, only 24% of the required 4,326 hectares have been acquired, " he said, adding that several projects had been pending for nearly five years. Similar delays, he claimed, were affecting National Highway works as well.

Party spokesperson ANS Prasad launched a sharp attack on actor-politician Vijay, alleging that the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam had been turned into a political trading platform to benefit the DMK.

He accused TVK leader Aadhav Arjuna of acting as a political broker to split anti-DMK votes and claimed that Vijay's recent political engagements indicated a covert understanding with the ruling party.

Terming this a betrayal of party workers, Prasad asserted that the AIADMK–BJP National Democratic Alliance would defeat the DMK in the 2026 Assembly elections.

He said the alliance would usher in a DMK-free Tamil Nadu and ensure development through a double-engine government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami.
