CHENNAI: With the Assembly elections fast approaching, AICC Tamil Nadu in-charge Girish Chodankar said that formal alliance talks with the DMK will begin within the next two days, signalling renewed momentum in discussions, and reportedly left for New Delhi to consult Rahul Gandhi on alliance-related decisions and clarifications over resolutions taken at the recent meeting of the GOP top brass.
Girish Chodankar told reporters that he had spoken to DMK MP Kanimozhi over the phone on Monday morning and confirmed that official alliance talks with the DMK would begin within two days.
Meanwhile, after a high-level meeting of Tamil Nadu Congress leaders, held in Chennai on Sunday under the leadership of Girish Chodankar, TNCC chief Selvaperunthagai announced a statewide padyatra on February 5 to protest the removal of Mahatma Gandhi’s name from the rural employment guarantee scheme.
The march will be conducted across six zones in Tamil Nadu and will be joined by senior leaders, including AICC general secretary KC Venugopal.
This is seen as an effort to galvanise Congress members, amid some DMK leaders’ claims of the GOP being weak in ground work and grassroots.
