COIMBATORE: Congress MP Karti Chidambaram on Wednesday said that the party’s demand for a share in governance is nothing new.
“It’s our long-standing aspiration,” he said to the media in Coimbatore.
Claiming that all political parties have a legitimate expectation of a share in power, the Congress leader said any party would claim a share in power when they secure a significant victory in polls. “As the Congress has not been in power since 1967, our expectations for a political comeback are high,” he said.
Pointing out that Congress missed some opportunities in the past, Karti Chidambaram expressed hope that their leader, Rahul Gandhi, would definitely support their rightful demands.
On the possibility of an alliance with TVK, Karti Chidambaram said he is unsure whether the huge crowd gathering for Vijay would translate into votes.
His popularity as an actor draws huge crowds, but political parties do not. Also, with changing times, people are unwilling to sit for long hours to listen to the speech of politicians

Terming the idea of ‘one nation, one election’ as unrealistic, he said people sometimes teach a lesson to the central government through state elections. “The people will be able to express their opinions only if polls are held frequently,” he said.
On the controversy surrounding the release of films, Karti Chidambaram said, I have no intention to watch either Parasakthi or Jana Nayagan. “If we were to decide Tamil Nadu’s politics based on films, Hollywood actor Arnold Schwarzenegger would have become the Chief Minister. People watch movies just for entertainment,” he said.
