TIRUCHY: A college student from Tiruchy who followed the vehicle of TVK president Vijay from Tiruchy airport to Thanjavur was severely injured after his bike hit a car.
The information about the landing of actor Vijay at Tiruchy airport had spread like wildfire, and the frenzied fans who gathered all along the Tiruchy airport to Thanjavur route either greeted him or followed him on two-wheelers despite the party leadership having warned against such activity.
Among the fans, P Vignesh (20), a resident of Kalkandarkottai, Tiruchy and a third-year student of a private college, along with his friend Sharon (20) followed the vehicle of Vijay on a two-wheeler. While they attempted to get closer to Vijay's vehicle when they were at Valappakudi near Sengipatti, their two-wheeler hit a car, and in the impact, Vignesh and Sharon were thrown off. Vignesh sustained a severe head injury, while Sharon suffered fractures in both his legs. The public rushed them to a private hospital in Thanjavur, and the condition of Vignesh is said to be critical.
Similarly, a group of three fans who were identified as Kalaimani (30), Muthu (27) and Durga Shree (24) were attempting to follow the vehicle of Vijay after the meeting by a two-wheeler. When Kalaimani tried to negotiate another vehicle from hitting, he lost control of the bike, and smashed into the centre median at Saliyamangalam.
Sengipatti police registered separate cases and are investigating.
