CM Stalin reviews up gig workers’ livelihoods, hands over e-scooters

The initiative aims to support mobile application-based gig workers by improving their mobility and livelihood opportunities.

CHENNAI: Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday launched a scheme to provide e-scooters at subsidised prices to workers registered with the Tamil Nadu Platform-Based Gig Workers Welfare Board.

The scheme was inaugurated at the Island Grounds here, where the Chief Minister flagged off the distribution of e-scooters to 100 gig workers on behalf of the Labour Welfare and Skill Development Department. The initiative aims to support mobile application-based gig workers by improving their mobility and livelihood opportunities.

On the same occasion, the Chief Minister also flagged off 155 new vehicles for the Revenue Administration and Disaster Management Department. The vehicles have been procured at a total cost of Rs. 13.73 crore.

The new vehicles will be utilised by officers of the Revenue Administration and Disaster Management Commissionerate, including Sub-Collectors, Deputy Collectors and Taluk Magistrates, to strengthen field-level administration and disaster response activities across the State.

Minister for Labour Welfare and Skill Development CV Ganesan, Secretary to the Department K Veera Raghava Rao, Commissioner for Labour Welfare CV Raman, and Chief Secretary N Muruganantham were present at the event.
