CHENNAI: Chief Minister MK Stalin on Friday extended birthday greetings to senior Communist leader R Nallakannu, who turned 101.

In a message on social media platform X, the Chief Minister said, “My hearty birthday wishes to senior-most Communist leader R Nallakannu, a centenarian who has always guided us.”

Praising Nallakannu’s selfless public life, Stalin said the veteran was a freedom fighter who consistently raised his voice for agricultural labourers and stood as a living example for the younger generation. He also wished him good health and a long, fulfilling life.

Meanwhile, MDMK general secretary Vaiko and PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss extended their wishes to the senior leader.

In his message, Vaiko said that he holds Comrade R Nallakannu in the highest regard. He noted that it is particularly significant that the Communist Party of India (CPI) is also completing 100 years on this historic day, even as the veteran leader reached the remarkable milestone of a century.

Vaiko recalled that Nallakannu had witnessed and actively participated in numerous historic struggles, the Indian freedom movement, the struggles for the rights of farmers and workers, movements against untouchability and caste and religious oppression, campaigns opposing the plunder of mineral resources, and the long fight for social justice.

In a separate message, Anbumani wished Nallakannu many more years of good health and continued guidance for successive generations.
