CHENNAI: Pointing out that the oil companies making a profit of whopping Rs 1 lakh crore in 2022-2023, PMK founder S Ramadoss has urged the oil companies to reduce prices of petrol and diesel.

In his statement, the senior leader said that the three public sector oil companies have made Rs 1 lakh crore profit which is three times higher than the profit of Rs 33,000 Crore made in 2021-2022. "Even after the huge profit and additional revenue during the last 4 months, fuel prices are not reduced. It is condemnable. Citing the increasing prices of crude oil in international market in 2021, prices of petrol and diesel rates were increased till May 2022. Despite the crude oil prices cane down by 30 persons, the benefit has not been transferred to the people," he said.

He added that as of June, oil companies are making additional profit of Rs 13 on one litre of petrol and Rs 11 on diesel. It is unjustifiable that prices have not been reduced. He called the move as injustice.

"People of all states suffer from rise in prices. Important reason of this is the rising fuel prices. To reduce prices of basic items, prices of petrol and diesel should be reduced. The oil companies have made up to the losses that they accrued in past years." The central government, without any delay, should order oil companies to reduce prices of petrol by Rs. 13 per litre and diesel by Rs. 11 per litre," Ramadoss urged.
