

CHENNAI: Domestic airfares from Chennai Airport has surged multiple times ahead of the three-day long weekend for Good Friday and Easter, with Chennai-Thoothukudi airfare nearly triple.
Meanwhile, Chennai-Madurai and Chennai-Coimbatore routes have seen fares going up by double to triple compared to usual rates, respectively.
The minimum fare on the Chennai-Thoothukudi route has increased from Rs 6,503 to Rs 17,021
Chennai-Madurai fares have gone up from Rs 5,467 to Rs 13,147
Chennai-Coimbatore has gone up from Rs 4,966 to Rs 16,496
Chennai-Tiruchy has risen from Rs 4,521 to Rs 5,615
Chennai-Salem has risen from Rs 4,088 to Rs 5,051
Chennai-Kochi fares have surged from Rs 4,840 to Rs 18,071
Chennai-Bengaluru from Rs 3,071 to Rs 16,496
Chennai-Hyderabad from Rs 4,779 to Rs 19,453
Officials said that amidst issues faced by airlines late last year, the Union government had imposed restrictions on fare hikes.
However, the curbs have now reportedly been relaxed due to rising fuel prices, following which airlines have increased ticket fares.
