CHENNAI: In a boost to the tourism potential of The Nilgiris, Chennai Metro Asset Management Limited (CMAML) is preparing a Detailed Feasibility Report (DFR) for a high-altitude, cable-propelled ropeway system, connecting major tourist attractions of the hill district.
This sustainable initiative aims to enhance transit infrastructure in ecologically sensitive areas by connecting iconic sites with safe, efficient, and eco-friendly transport.
A joint venture between Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) and TIDCO, CMAML has awarded a Rs 96.63 lakh consultancy contract to a consortium comprising Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDEC) Ltd, Bengaluru, and Outdoor Engineers AG, Switzerland. The consultant will conduct a 120-day comprehensive assessment covering technical feasibility, alignment options, and ridership potential. It will also assess environmental and social impacts, and propose traffic management improvements for Udhagamandalam town as part of better urban integration.
The study will serve as the foundational roadmap for future project implementation, aligning with the state’s broader goal of introducing modern mobility solutions to hill stations like Ooty and Kodaikanal.
