DMK functionaries in Tirupur were caught off guard after a photograph of Raj Mohan Kumar, secretary of DMK trader’s wing, calling on the principal secretary in the latter’s native, Tiruchy, a few days ago surfaced. The visit shocked functionaries who were already puzzled by his reinstatement after his release on bail. Inquiries revealed that he was retained a week after his expulsion at the behest of someone at the leadership level.
“Nehru’s visits were followed by reorganisation measures in each district. It happened in Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Coimbatore. Just when party cadre were anticipating a revamp in Tirupur, a tainted expelled functionary has been reinstated. All the momentum built by Nehru’s visits has been undone. Nehru could have at least avoided hosting him,” said a party senior who did not wish to be named. “If the reinstatement had happened because of someone at the helm, then how will his reviews inspire confidence among cadre?” he asked.
