In a WhatsApp message, Bedi said her visit to Yanam was an eye opener. Construction over the Island E5, which was referred by Stalin and reported in a section of media on Friday, was at the cost of Rs 5 crore, done in violation of all environmental laws.

The washed out concrete constructions was seen by all, including media during her visit to Yanam, she said posting a video of the same on Twitter.

Wondering on who gave instructions for the constructions, the Lt Governor said a vigilance inquiry on the basis of a PIL in Madras High Court is on its way.

Public officials will have to answer, she said, adding that while there may be no concrete evidences as to on whose behest they did so. But that does not excuse them of the liability of criminal acts or irregularities committed, she added.

Will the MLAs or speakers inform the truth to the people rather than telling lies, Bedi wondered.

The Lt. Governor regretted that though, the members of the media saw the violations, many of them failed to report and a few who reported also underplayed it. This is a question of loss of Rs 5 crore for a poor place like Yanam where people are starved on basics, she said.
