COIMBATORE: Dismissing the Aryan–Dravidian divide as a myth, Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi on Friday said attempts to split people along such lines are rooted in falsehood.
Addressing a conference, 'Sindhu Saraswathi Civilisation (From Sindhu to Thamiraparani – The Flow of Faith and Civilisation)' in Coimbatore, Ravi said those trying to divide people as Aryans and Dravidians, besides race and language, will be defeated as they stand on falsehood.
“Our own people with a colonised mindset deny the existence of our rich ancient past. But, with the advent of modern science, remote sensing technology and satellite imagery, the existence of the Saraswathi river has been established scientifically. The ISRO scientists have mapped how it emanated from the glaciers of the Himalayas and flowed into the ocean. There are also references about the river in the Mahabaratha,” he said.
Pointing to a lot of conflicts happening around the world, the governor said, in Tamil Nadu alone, more than 20,000 people end their lives by suicide. “Every day, more than 65 people end their lives by suicide, making Tamil Nadu the suicide capital of India. No other state sees so many suicides. Everyone is in distress and in conflict with oneself, trying to spread hatred in the name of language and religion. By conflicting with the environment, the whole world is rushing towards self-destruction,” he said.
Further, Ravi said India is emerging strong not only in military capabilities, but also in spiritual and cultural resurgence, the root of which lies in our Sindhu Saraswathi civilisation. “It was the Europeans who destroyed our rich ancient civilisation, fabricated the history of Bharat and misinterpreted facts,” he said.
Meanwhile, the members of Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (TPDK) staged a protest opposing the conference, alleging that it distorts history.
