CHENNAI: With the claims and objections window under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls open, data released by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday show that 39,821 applications seeking inclusion of eligible voters and 413 objections seeking deletion of ineligible voters were received in Tamil Nadu in just two days, as of 8 pm on December 20.
According to the daily bulletin issued by the Chief Electoral Officer, the figures pertain to claims and objections filed between December 19 and December 20.
Officials indicated that the numbers are expected to rise in the coming days as the revision process continues. The bulletin shows that Forms 6 and 6A were used to seek inclusion of eligible electors, while Form 7 was submitted for deletion requests. Authorities reiterated that only applications filed through prescribed statutory forms, along with required declarations, are counted, and that generic complaints or representations without forms are excluded.
Significantly, political parties have not sought any mass deletions so far. Of the submissions routed through parties, only two inclusion requests were filed, both by the ruling DMK, while no exclusion requests were submitted by any political party during the period under review.
The draft electoral roll for Tamil Nadu contains over 5.43 crore electors. Data also show extensive deployment of Booth Level Agents (BLAs) by parties, with the DMK appointing 65,210 BLAs, followed by the AIADMK with 63,703. Among national parties, the BJP led with 54,258 BLAs, while the Congress appointed 27,158.
The ECI reiterated that the SIR exercise is a continuous, verification-driven process, and assured that all eligible voters whose names were omitted in the draft roll can still be included in the final electoral roll, as the State moves closer to the 2026 Assembly elections.
