TIRUCHY: Jallikattu Commentators Association (JCA) approached Tiruchy Collector on Monday and submitted a petition appealing to allow all villages to organise their jallikattu events at the new Sooriyur Stadium in Tiruchy.

The association members, headed by state president Senguttuvan, who came to the Tiruchy Collectorate, said that the villages across the state, particularly in Tiruchy, used to organise jallikattu events as a part of Pongal celebrations, for which they used to spend huge money for the arrangements.

However, the new jallikattu stadium, which has permanent structures for the galleries for VIPs and the spectators which usually costs more than Rs 5 lakh for the organisers. “If every organiser is given a chance to hold the event in the stadium, it would reduce the burden of expenditure and the organisers can concentrate on other safety measures for the event,” Senguttuvan said.

He also appealed to the district administration to initiate steps to allow the jallikattu event in the stadium and provide a chance for every village by making schedules. “The organisers would be grateful if the events are allowed at the stadium,” he said further.

Meanwhile, Senguttuvan pointed out that the state government is entitled to organise the jallikattu event in places like Palamedu, Avaniyapuram and Alanganallur and in the same way, the government should come forward to organise the Sooriyur jallikattu.

He also appealed to withdraw the online registration for jallikattu events, which face several issues, including network problems. “In those days, the bull owners would be invited by the organisers with the traditional honour, which would give them a sense of satisfaction, and this is missing in the online registration,” Senguttuvan claimed.
