    CHENNAI: Gnanasekaran, the accused in the sexual assault of a student inside Anna University campus in December 2024, was on Monday sentenced to life imprisonment by the Mahila Court.

    The court held that Gnanasekaran must undergo at least 30 years of imprisonment without remission as part of sentencing.

    The court also imposed a fine of Rs 90,000 on the accused.

    The 11 sections under which Gnanasekaran was found guilty and the sentencing:

    * Sec 329: Criminal trespass with intent to commit an offence ; three months imprisonment

    * Sec 126 (2): Wrongful restraint ; one month imprisonment

    * Sec 87: Kidnapping/Abduction of woman for compelling her for marriage/intercourse ; 10 years imprisonment with Rs 10,000 fine

    * Sec 127 (2): Wrongful confinement ; 1 year imprisonment

    * Sec 75 (2) r/w 75 (i) (ii) (iii): Sexual harassment/ (i) physical contact and advances involving unwelcome and explicit sexual overtures;

    * (ii) a demand or request for sexual favours;

    * (iii) showing pornography against the will of a woman. ; Rigorous imprisonment for 3 years

    * Sec 76: Assault/Criminal force on woman with intent to disrobe her ; Rigorous imprisonment for 7 years with Rs 10,000 fine

    * Sec 64 (i): Rape ; Life imprisonment for minimum period of 30 years without remission with a fine of Rs 25,000

    * Sec 351 (3): Criminal intimidation ; 7 years imprisonment with a fine of Rs 10,000

    * Sec 238 (b): Causing evidence to disappear or provide false information to shield offender ; 3 years imprisonment with Rs 50,000 fine

    * Sec 66 E of Information Technology act: Capturing/Publishing/Transmitting image of private area of a person without their consent ; 3 years imprisonment with Rs 25,000 fine

    * Sec 4 of Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women (TNPHW) Act.
