CHENNAI: The Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) on Wednesday (January 21), formally rejoined the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), with its general secretary TTV Dhinakaran asserting that political accommodation, when guided by larger interests, is a strength rather than a weakness.
Those who make compromises do not lose out. Keeping in mind the welfare of the party and the interests of Tamil Nadu, we have decided to rejoin the NDA

The decision was sealed at a meeting held at a private hotel in Nungambakkam, where Dhinakaran re-entered the NDA fold in the presence of Union Commerce and Industry Minister and BJP’s Tamil Nadu Assembly election in-charge Piyush Goyal. Union Minister L Murugan, BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran, senior leader Vanathi Srinivasan and other BJP functionaries were also present.
The AMMK’s return marks another step in the steady consolidation of the NDA’s alliance architecture in Tamil Nadu ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. Earlier, the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), led by Anbumani Ramadoss, had already aligned with the NDA, strengthening the coalition’s social and regional outreach.
Party sources indicate that the alliance is set to expand further, with Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) expected to formally join the NDA in the coming days.
