Alagiri has advised interested party men to submit their filled in applications to the district Congress committees in three days from November 21. The applications would be taken up for perusal during the meeting of district presidents to be held at Sathyamurthy Bhavan on November 26, a statement issued by Alagiri said.

The state Congress has fixed Rs 10,000 as donation for the post of mayor and Rs 3,000 for application to the post of corporation councilor. The Congress party, which is keen on contesting in around 25 per cent seats, could settle for a number mutually agreeable to the both parties. The party has planned to seek at least two mayor seats. Incidentally, Alagiri who chaired a meeting of his district presidents to discuss the civic polls issue only a day ago, has advised his party functionaries to begin the poll preparations to defeat the anti-people AIADMK. In a statement announcing the distribution of applications, Alagiri said the state Congress functionaries should take up defeating AIADMK regime as their primary duty, as they did in the recent Lok Sabah elections.
