Police said the victim Chinna Vellaiyan from Ulikal, near Coonoor, who was employed as a security guard at a lodge in the same neighbourhood, had come under attack from the bison in the morning.
Scared on seeing the animal entering the building premises, the guard tried to run away from the place. However, the bison chased and gored him to death. He succumbed to injuries on the spot.
The body of the deceased was then handed over to his relatives after a post-mortem at Coonoor Government Hospital. The Forest Department staff gave an initial compensation of Rs 50,000 to the kin of the deceased.
The latest incident left the villagers panicked as a retired army staff died and a woman critically injured in another bison attack last week. Symond, 85, from Black Bridge post office residential quarters, near Coonoor, was killed by a wandering bison near his house on November 13.
In another incident on the same day, Lakshmi, 45 was plucking tea leaves at Thalakkad Mattam, when she was attacked by a bison. She suffered serious injuries.
