In all, the police registered 3,168 cases till Thursday evening, of which 289 cases were in Villupuram. The police detained 3,779 persons in connection with these cases, including 406 in Salem which is the highest.
Also, the police seized as many as 1,924 vehicles for violation of the curfew, with Villupuram topping the list with 269 seizures
The statistics showed that the police were more forgiving in Chennai, having booked only 103 cases of violations since the shutdown came into force at midnight on Tuesday. Madurai, too, recorded a relatively low 141 cases.
