AHMEDABAD: Tamil Nadu recorded only its second win from six matches of Group A in the ongoing Vijay Hazare tournament in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. TN, which has already been eliminated, earned a 54-run win over Tripura.
Asked to bat first, TN put up a total of 259 for six on the board with the promising C Andre Siddarth top-scoring with a well-made 70 (86b, 6x4, 2x6). This after his team got off to a shaky start, losing both openers with the score only 25.
Captain N Jagadeesan fell without scoring in the second over, while Washington Sundar got out for 9 in the ninth over. Andre Siddarth joined hands with the seasoned B Indrajith, who made a valuable 48 (62b, 4x4), as the duo put on 103 runs for the third wicket.
Once that partnership was separated, Mohamed Ali played an entertaining cameo of unbeaten 46 (47b, 5x4, 1x6). He received good support from Karthick Manikandan who remained not out on 35 (30b, 2x4).
In reply, Tripura was restricted to 205 as the lanky pacer Gurjapneet Singh stole the show taking six wickets for 26 runs. At no stage did Tripura looked like it would make a good fist of the chase as it kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Mystery spinner and India international Varun Chakravarthy bowled an economical spell, finishing with impressive figures of 2 for 23.
Brief scores: Tamil Nadu 259/6 in 50 overs (C Andre Siddarth 70, B Indrajith 48, M Ali 46*) bt Tripura 205 in 42.4 overs (T Jaiswal 45, M Murasingh 43, G Singh 6/26)
