Brock and Albrecht, plying their trade at Knappenschmiede (Schalke 04 youth academy), have played a role in shaping up the careers of Leroy Sane, Julian Draxler, Benedikt Howedes, Mesut Ozil and Manuel Neuer. As part of a collaboration between German club FC Schalke and School of Sports, the duo will train city kids, handpicked through ‘Football Marathon’, for about a week.
The marathon, a 12-hour event, will be held across 10 venues on November 4 (Monday). After the conclusion of their assignment in Chennai, Brock and Albrecht will travel to Kolkata, often referred to as the ‘Mecca of Indian Football’. “We are looking forward to meeting the players and coaches. It is always good to discuss with the experts of the sport. We are curious to know about the market here,” said Albrecht.
The best footballers from the marathon will be educated by the German pair, via a one-week programme which comes free of cost. “There will be physical and theoretical training. We will be teaching the kids some of our concepts, which are being used in our very successful Knappenschmiede. During the sessions, the youngsters will have fun and learn more about techniques and tactics. They will of course play a lot of games,” he added.
Having already imparted a certain deal of knowledge in nations like Rwanda and China, Brock is eager to have a taste of the Indian way of life. “It is always exciting to visit various countries and meet people of different cultures. It is very special for us (FC Schalke coaches) to see kids playing football all over the world. So, we can’t wait to see the kind of talent that is on offer in India,” remarked Brock.
