Pro Volleyball League: Black hawks defeats U Mumba

Rohit Kumar led the scoring chart for Hyderabad with 10 points (6 spikes, 4 blocks), while Pankaj Sharma top-scored for U Mumba with 15 points (14 spikes and 1 block).

In the first set, both teams didn’t give each other an inch and were neck to neck almost throughout. U Mumba had a two-point lead at 8-6 going into the Technical Time Out (TTO). The last few points were hard-fought and the Mumbai-based franchise prevailed 15-13.

The story was similar in the second set as teams were locked up at seven each. Hyderabad wrapped up the set 15-11, levelling the match 1-1. U Mumba won four straight points in the third set, making a statement of intent. It had a five-point cushion at 8-3 during the breather. From there on, it put on a dominant display to restore its one-set advantage, bagging the third set 15-7.

In the penultimate set, Hyderabad kept U Mumba on hold till six all. At 11-13, Hyderabad called for a Super Point and clinched it to stay alive in the contest. That gave the side a lift and it closed out the set 15-14.

In the decider, U Mumba started in style and raced to a 6-3 lead. But, Hyderabad then took control and had a 11-8 advantage. Though U Mumba reduced the deficit to just one point at 10-11, it wasn’t able to pose a challenge there after. Hyderabad eventually won the set 15-11.
