The main draw of the event will be played from February 12 at the SDAT Tennis Stadium in Nungambakkam which was the venue for the ATP 250 point event for 21 years. The Qualifying matches will start on February 10. The TNTA plans to make it an annual event.
The field for the Chennai Open Challenger is very strong with a cut off level of 277 which is much lower than the recent Challenger events in Pune and Bangalore. The top seed is Jordan Thompson of Australia who is ranked 94.
Yuki Bhambri is the second seed and the other Indians in the main draw are Saketh Myneni, Sumit Nagal and Prajnesh Gunneswaran. We will have another four Indian players in the Main Draw through the Wild Card route. The doubles field will also have a lot of Indian players. The hours of play are from 10 am to 6 pm. The singles final will be played at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 17.
