CHENNAI: Amid challenges over leadership and accusations, TNCC president Selvaperunthagai has announced he will resign after the election results are announced to focus on his constituency work.
Even though he denied speculation about pressure, he acknowledged he couldn't maintain cordial relations with certain quarters within the party. He then added that he would inform the AICC leaders of his decision soon, as he wants to focus on constituency work and public welfare.
Sources said Selvaperunthagai was very upset and frustrated by the internal rift among senior party members and some MPs over alliance formation, power-sharing, and even the finalisation of candidates for constituencies. This could have led him to take this decision.
He thanked the party high command for believing in him and giving him a two-year opportunity to serve as state chief.
He noted that in 2024, the TNCC won 100% of the seats it contested in the parliamentary elections, securing 9 seats in Tamil Nadu and 1 seat in Puducherry.
Responding to a reporter's question about facing any external pressure, he said, "I am not facing any pressure from anywhere. When I became the state president, it was easy to create plans, but it was not easy to maintain good relationships with party members, " he noted.
