CHENNAI: Ahead of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit, a team from the Special Protection Group (SPG) arrived in Chennai to review security arrangements. On Tuesday morning, the SPG team conducted an Advanced Security Liaison (ASL) meeting at the old Chennai airport terminal.

Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to attend an NDA election campaign at Maduranthagam in Chengalpattu on Friday. Owing to tight scheduling, the visit has been planned for less than three hours, during which he will travel only by a special aircraft and helicopter, avoiding road travel altogether.

He will depart from Thiruvananthapuram in a special aircraft at 1.15 pm and arrive at the old terminal of the Chennai airport at around 2.15 pm. He will then board a special helicopter at 2.25 pm and proceed directly to the Maduranthagam public meeting venue by 3 pm.

The NDA election campaign rally is scheduled to take place between 3 pm and 4.30 pm. Along with the Prime Minister, senior NDA leaders, including AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, are expected to participate and address the gathering.

After the conclusion of the rally, the Prime Minister will leave Maduranthagam at 4.30 pm in the same helicopter and return to Chennai airport by 5 pm. He is scheduled to depart for Delhi by special aircraft at 5.05 pm.

The SPG team carried out a detailed inspection of the parking area for the Prime Minister's special aircraft, the designated helicopter landing zone, and the deployment plan for security personnel. It has also been decided to place the old Chennai Airport under a comprehensive security cover for four days from Tuesday until the Prime Minister's visit on January 23. Following the airport inspection, the SPG team proceeded to Maduranthagam to assess the public meeting venue and the helicopter landing area.
