CHENNAI: The houses in Naduveerapattu were flooded with water at midnight after unidentified men broke the lake.

Naduveerapattu village is located in Kancheepuram near Kundrathur and has a population of more than 5000 people.

The Naduveerapattu Lake is under the control of the PWD and is one of the biggest lakes in the locality with a spread of 2000 acres. In the recent rains, the lake reached its full capacity.

Subsequently, on Tuesday midnight, unidentified men breached the lake bund inundating the locality.

The residents who were sleeping in their houses were shocked to see stormwater entering thier houses.

The areas like Bajanai Koil Street and Nagathamman koil street were completely flooded.

The panchayat officials who visited the spot began the rescue operations and the public were moved to a safer place and started to fix the broken lake with the help of the local villagers.

On Wednesday morning the minister TM Anbarasan Minster for Rural, Cottage, and Small Industries along with the district collector Kalaiselvi Mohan visited the spot and inspected the lake.

The minister said that police are investigating to find the lake at midnight and action will be taken against them.

The people were shifted to the nearby flood relief camp and the officials provided them with food and other essentials.
