The workers were clearing garbage on 22nd Street near the old police station where seized vehicles are parked. One of them, Devaki (39), stepped on a white object which burst like a cracker and injured her legs. Following alert, a team from Shankar Nagar arrived at the spot along with forensic team, who confirmed that the object was white phosphorus.
According to police sources, white phosphorous was found on the Second Street and a food delivery boy suffered injuries two days ago. Officials cleared the area and removed the white phosphorus. The Shankar Nagar police have registered a case and are investigating how the chemical came there and if anyone was preparing explosives in the neighbourhood.
