Truck hits two-wheeler, kills mother, 3-year-old near Padi flyover

CHENNAI: A 37-year-old woman and her three-year-old daughter died while her partner is admitted to a hospital with grievous injuries after a rashly-driven tipper lorry ran over their two-wheeler from the rear on Saturday near Padi flyover.
The deceased were identified as Priyanka (37) and Caroline Diya (3) of T Nagar, and the partner is Saravanan (27). They were on their way back home from a trip to Siruvapuri Murugan temple in Tiruvallur when they met with the accident.
According to the police, Saravanan was approaching the Padi flyover when the tipper lorry hit the bike from the rear end. Priyanka fell under the wheels of the lorry and died on the spot. Passerby alerted the authorities and rushed the child and Saravanan to a hospital where the three-year-old died without responding to treatment.
Saravanan was shifted to the Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for further treatment. Tirumangalam TIW (traffic investigation wing) police moved the bodies to a GH for post mortem. A case was registered against the truck driver, Jayakumar, who was arrested and his vehicle was seized.
