The deceased, S Sai Srivathsan, was a Class 11 student of a private school in Sithalapakkam and had won two medals at the state-level competitions earlier, the police said.

On Sunday morning, he visited the Velachery Aquatic Complex at the SDAT premises where he was practising in the morning and evening hours for an upcoming state-level meet. While training, Srivathsan suddenly developed wheezing and came out of the pool.

While his trainer was giving him first-aid, he collapsed and was rushed to a private hospital in Guindy. However, doctors declared him brought dead on arrival. His body was sent to Government Royapettah Hospital and was handed over to his father after post-mortem.

Though there was nothing suspicious in the initial report, his viscera samples have been sent for further analysis. Guindy police inspector Kumar said the incident was recorded as a natural death. The boy’s mother died six months ago and his father Sridhar had retired from work to take care of Srivathsan, an officer added.
