TIRUCHY: A seven-year-old boy from Tiruvarur, who was bitten by a mongoose three months ago, died on Tuesday, reportedly due to a viral infection. The boy's body was later buried in a cemetery.
It is said that M Naveen (7), son of Muthu of Puthupala Theru in Ammayappan near Tiruvarur was reportedly bitten by a mongoose three months ago while he was sleeping inside his house. He was taken to the Tiruvarur Government Hospital, where he underwent treatment and was discharged. The boy was studying in Class 1 in a school nearby.
Naveen's body was buried by the health department, as they feared that contagious infection could spread to others in the family.
On January 24, Naveen had a fever with a high temperature, and he was taken to the Tiruvarur Medical College Hospital. He was admitted in the hospital for closely-monitored treatment. However, the fever did not subside, and his condition had worsened. Soon, he was shifted to the critical care unit.
On Tuesday, Naveen succumbed and the medical team found that he died due to the viral attack which was feared to be contagious. Hence, the body was not given to members of the family. The health department buried the body in a cemetery near the medical college with all due protocols.
The officials also screened the members of the family and sprayed disinfectant in the house of Naveen.
