CHENNAI: The police arrested a quack who ran a clinic in Okkiyam Thoraipakkam by claiming to be an MBBS graduate and prescribed allopathic medicines to unassuming patients. Health department authorities were notified about the man's clinic, after which they conducted inquiries and informed the police.

The arrested person was identified as Vijayakumar (34). Police said that he studied a course in physiotherapy and was practicing physiotherapy for the last ten years. About three months ago, he opened a clinic near his residence and started prescribing allopathic medicines. He also advertised offering home visits and treatments.

Based on a tip off, the Health Department officials conducted an inspection and verified his credentials. During the inquiry, officials seized a fake MBBS certificate from Vijayakumar, confirming that he had no authorisation to practise medicine.

Based on the complaint, the Kannagi Nagar police registered a case and arrested Vijayakumar. The arrested quack was produced before a magistrate court in the city and remanded in judicial custody.
