The initiative was started earlier this month, to support patients who do not have the essential clothes and other accessories required in the hospital. In less than a month, the hospital received contributions worth Rs 4 lakhs.
The three towers of RGGGH have separate cupboards set to receive contributions in the form of clothes and other materials, including soaps, oil, toothpaste, brush, combs and others.
“There are a lot of patients who come to the hospital in critical condition and get cured here. Many of them ask the hospital authorities if they could contribute to the hospital in any way. These recovered patients are the main source of contribution to the “wall of kindness”. We maintain a registry of the materials received as an acknowledgement, said Dr E Theranirajan, dean, Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital.
He added that the patients have the freedom to pick up whatever they require and it saves them from any kind of hesitation in asking for these materials to hospital authorities. Patients said the initiative is a saving grace for many as not everyone can afford even basic materials upon hospitalisation.
