

CHENNAI: Several areas under the Teynampet, Kodambakkam, Valasaravakkam, Alandur and Adyar zones will not receive piped drinking water for 28 hours from Sunday morning as repair works are to be carried out on a major transmission line, the Chennai Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board said.
According to an official release, Chennai Metro Rail Limited will undertake repairs to arrest leakage in the drinking water transfer pipeline near pillar number 246 on Porur–Arcot Road in the Valasaravakkam zone. The work will be carried out from 6 am on February 1 to 10 am on February 2.
During this period, piped water supply will be suspended in parts of the Teynampet zone, including Mylapore and Nandanam; Kodambakkam zone covering KK Nagar, Jafferkhanpet, MGR Nagar, Nesapakkam, Saidapet, Ashok Nagar and West Mambalam; Valasaravakkam zone comprising Valasaravakkam, Alapakkam, Chinna Porur and Ramapuram; Alandur zone including Nandambakkam, Alandur, Mugalivakkam and Manapakkam; and Adyar zone covering Kotturpuram, Indira Nagar, Besant Nagar, Tiruvanmiyur, Taramani and Velachery.
The board has urged residents in the affected areas to store adequate water as a precaution. In case of emergency, water can be requested through the Dial for Water service by registering on the board’s website.
It also said that areas without water connections and those facing low pressure would be supplied through tankers and street taps, and assured that distribution would be prioritised to ensure an uninterrupted supply.
