CHENNAI: A Paralympic archer who was part of the US national team, who has lived with multiple sclerosis for nearly 20 years, regained functional recovery after treatment, said Apollo AyurVAID Hospitals on Tuesday.
The patient, Karen, arrived at the hospital in 2025 after more than two decades of near-complete reliance on a wheelchair. She consulted Dr Susmitha C, who began a structured Precision Ayurveda programme. The treatment plan included Panchakarma therapies, medication, a specific diet, and neuro-rehabilitation.
Her progress was tracked using standard neurological scales. "This approach addresses the underlying drivers of her condition, " stated Dr Susmitha.
"I never imagined I could regain true mobility," said Karen. "Standing up again feels like reclaiming a part of myself." She now integrates lower-limb training into her archery practice and aims to compete in the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics.
Karen, a pharmacist and disability advocate, has represented the US national para archery team. She continues follow-up sessions to maintain her recovery.
