M Kumar, a resident of Rosary Church, Second Street, had filed a complaint regarding the contaminated water supply. An official from the CMWSSB said, “We first received a complaint on July 11. The water sample was tested in the Quality Assurance Wing of CMWSSB on July 14 and the test results showed that there was no contamination of Metro water in the above street since coliform presence was nil. However, the deadend water main in the street has been cleaned and flushed. Another set of samples were collected on August 11 and tested. The test result showed that the quality of water was good and not polluted.”
The official added, “The result indicates that the ammonia presence in the water is 0.03 mg/l as against the permissible limit of 0.5 mg/l as per IS code for drinking water standards. The Quality Assurance wing officials of CMWSSB inspected and tested the samples on the spot at 8 am on August 16, in the presence of the complainant and found that the residual chlorine level is 1.0 ppm and TDS is 230 which shows that the water is not contaminated and quality of the water supplied in the street is potable.”
Kumar, a long-time resident of the street, confirmed, “The officials visited the spot and the Chief Engineer too spoke to us regarding this issue. Work was immediately carried out in the vicinity and fresh samples were taken. They said they will observe the water supply for a week. The residents are happy to see that immediate action has been taken.”
