An ardent fan of the actor, S Vijay (22), believes being a namesake is more than a coincidence. He says, “I had bought some milk the previous day. My plan was to be at the theatre at 6 am and be the first person to do palabhishekam. However, the milk wasn’t sufficient and I had to go hunting for it later.” Vijay, a student ended up spending Rs 3,000 for the occasion, which not only included buying milk but also contributing for the posters that fans in his locality had created.

Ask these die-hard Vijay fans about the logic behind such rituals and pat comes the reply. “So much of milk is used in religious places. That’s acceptable as it’s a matter of faith. Ilayathalapathy is a god to us,” said M Sethu, another Vijay fan. LG Sahadevan, a lawyer, says, “A PIL is usually filed only when an action creates nuisance and the public is affected by it.”

Superstar under scanner

Recently an injunction suit was filed in a Bengaluru court against superstar Rajinikanth and his fans by petitioner Dr IMS Manivanna for wastage of milk. The petitioner, who filed the case on March 26, wanted the actor’s fans to put an end to the wasteful practice.

As per reports, a notice was sent to the actor and the court asked him to respond to it. At that time, VM Sudhakar who handles Rajinikanth’s fan club refused to comment, but reiterated that the star discourages wastage of food items, especially during releases.
