Montfort Academy hosts 61st Annual Sports Meet

CHENNAI: Montfort Academy Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Santhome, hosted its 61st Annual Sports Meet, MACSPO 2026, recently  with students showcasing sporting talent, discipline and team spirit. IPS officer A Mayilvaganan was the chief guest of the event.

The guests of honour were Vivek P Dhanda, Chief Traffic Warden, TN Police Traffic Wardens Organisation. International basketball player and I-Tax official PN Bopanna and SuperOps Technology senior accounts manager M Sebastian Richard, both alumni, were special invitees.

Principal and Correspondent Reverend Brother G Louis Alex led the event. The programme began with flag hoisting, parade inspection and a March Past by the Thomas, Gabriel and Montfort houses, followed by an Olympic Torch Relay. Mayilvaganan formally declared the meet open.

The inaugural ceremony featured the symbolic release of pigeons and balloons. LKG and UKG students also presented a Montfort Olympic Parade, delighting the audience.

Mayilvaganan highlighted the importance of sports, particularly athletics, while Dhanda stressed the role of sports and road safety. The alumni shared their school experiences and encouraged students to uphold discipline and perseverance.

Track events including the Tiny Tots Run, 100m, 1,500m and 4x100m relay saw enthusiastic participation. Primary students presented a Mass Drill, Floral Dance and Tribal Dance.

The prize distribution honoured students who excelled at national, state, district and international levels. Individual and Overall Championship awards were also presented.
