

CHENNAI: A 29-year-old mother of two children, who tried to stop a fellow passenger from harassing a woman on board, was allegedly heckled and threatened by the man on a Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) bus in the Sembiam area. The police arrested the man based on a complaint.
According to the complainant, a resident of Shenoy Nagar, she was traveling with her two children on a bus (route no. 242) towards Shenoy Nagar on Thursday evening. She saw the man harassing another woman. When that passenger rebuked him, the man allegedly used abusive language.
Seeing this, the woman questioned the man, asking him why he was speaking in such a manner. In response, the accused allegedly turned his aggression towards her, using vulgar language, physically assaulting her, and issuing death threats.
Seeing this, the other passengers immediately intervened and subdued the man. Along with them, the woman took the man to the Sembiam Police Station and filed a formal complaint for his inappropriate behaviour and criminal intimidation.
During the investigation led by Semmbiam inspector, the man was identified as Nizam (36) of Janakiraman 1st Street in Perambur. Police confirmed that Nizam had indeed behaved inappropriately towards the women and issued death threats.
Based on the complaint and investigation, a case was registered at the Semmbiam station and Nizam was arrested. After preliminary questioning, the police have initiated action to get him remanded in custody.
