CHENNAI: An appropriate decision regarding the compulsory implementation of e-filing will be taken after Pongal, said the Chief Justice of Madras High Court.
Lawyers across Tamil Nadu have been protesting against the e-filing system. In this situation, the Madras High Court Advocates Association (MHAA) and the Federation of Bar Associations of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry filed a case challenging the move to make e-filing mandatory.
When the case came up for hearing before the bench of Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava and G Arul Murugan, the associations submitted that the introduction of e-filing should not completely prohibit the regular (physical) filing of cases.
They further stated that along with e-filing, there should also be an option to file cases physically.
Following this, the Chief Justice said that an appropriate decision on this issue would be taken after Pongal, and the hearing of the case was adjourned.
