The truck, bearing Karnataka state registration number was carrying saw dust and heading to Chidambaram from Bengaluru. When it was nearing Panamangalam bypass in Sirkazhi, a seven member gang followed the truck in a car and stopped it. Suddenly, they pelted stones at it, damaging the windshield of the truck. On receiving information, a police team led by Sirkazhi DSP Venkatesan arrived on the scene and provided safe escort till the Nagapattinam border.
Meanwhile, 13 pilgrims from Bengaluru, who had halted their SUV near Sirkazhi to eat at a hotel were shocked when an unidentified group damaged their vehicle and fled from the scene.
In Rameswaram, five tourists vehicles bearing Karnataka registration numbers were damaged and one of the drivers was attacked by members of Tamil outfits including Naam Tamilar Katchi and Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi.
In Madurai, members of the Tamil Puligal Organisation tried to burn the effigy of Kannada leader Vattal Nagaraj in front of Collectorate, on Monday and were arrested.
In Tiruchy, a group of men from Tamil Desiya Periyakkam besieged the railway station and attempted to block the train on Monday but were stopped by the police.
