The CCB registered two separate cases against Karnan and held inquiries at the Commissionerate last week. The most recent case was registered under Sections 228, 509, 294 (b), 506 (ii), 120-B of IPC and 67-A of the IT Act. The CCB had earlier registered a case against the retired judge under Sections 153 and 295 of the IPC based on a complaint and had summoned him for inquiry.
In October this year, Tiruvanmiyur police had registered a case against five men, without naming the judge, for trespassing into a female SC judge’s residence following which a video of him making sexually violent remarks against women judges and wives of SC judges went viral on social media. In 2017, Justice Karnan, who retired from the Calcutta High Court, was on the run for 40 days and arrested from a private guest house in Malumichampatti in Coimbatore by a WB police team.
