CHENNAI: IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation has partnered with the Union Education Ministry’s SWAYAM Plus platform to roll out a nationwide Artificial Intelligence (AI) training programme for teachers from rural schools, offering the course at no cost to eligible participants.

The flagship ‘AI for Educators – K12 Teachers’ certification programme, open to teachers handling Classes I to XII, will commence on February 5. Registrations close on January 31, IITM Pravartak said.

Designed as a 40-hour structured programme, the course aims to equip teachers with practical skills to integrate AI into classroom teaching, assessment and student engagement, while ensuring responsible and inclusive use of technology.

“With rapid changes in digital education, teachers need practical tools that enhance classroom effectiveness,” said Balamurali Shankar, Chief Knowledge Officer, IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation. “This programme will empower educators with hands-on AI tools and pedagogical strategies, enabling them to become future-ready and confident in adopting AI responsibly,” he added.

The course curriculum includes an introductory session and eight modules covering generative AI tools, prompt engineering, AI-based lesson planning, storytelling and gamification, AR/VR-enabled visualisation, AI-driven assessments, subject-specific applications, inclusive education strategies, and online and blended learning platforms.

Participants will gain hands-on exposure to AI-enabled teaching tools aimed at improving pedagogy, teacher productivity and interactive learning. The programme also focuses on AI-supported evaluation methods and designing AI-powered teaching resources.

A virtual, proctored MCQ-based assessment will be conducted at the end of the course. Successful candidates will receive certification from IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation. The certification fee will be waived for the first 500 rural school teachers who complete the programme.
