In a press statement issued here on Wednesday, the former judge said admitted that he was present at the event at the behest of some friends from the legal fraternity to discuss matters of legal importance with the Minister. But owing to the crowd he was requested to be on the stage, set for the meeting, he said.
“But after he (Prasad) had made his speech, my name was called and I was invited to accept the membership of the party, which was a total surprise for me as that was not the intention of my being at the venue of the meeting. I had never intended to be a member of the party and my presence at the venue was for a different purpose,” Jaichandren added.
“I would like to make it clear that I am not a member of the BJP and that I had never intended to be one. However, if my name has been given the tag of a member, I would request the office bearers of the party concerned to remove the same forthwith.”
Clarifying the delay of five months in coming up with the clarification, the judge said he had initially considered it a non-issue. But with him being enquired about it by his acquaintances on a regular basis, he thought it was time to clarify and make his stand clear.
